Franschhoek Uncorked Festival ®
This event is running from 01 September 2012 until 2 September 2012.
Say goodbye to the grey moods of winter and celebrate the arrival of spring by heading off to the beautiful village of Franschhoek over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of September for the annual Franschhoek Uncorked festival. Franschhoek wineries in and around the scenic valley welcome the fresh, new season, using the opportunity to showcase their exciting new vintages and releases, and putting on a string of special events for visitors.
Pack the car and set off for the winelands with its fresh country air and exquisite views whilst travelling from farm to farm. Be sure not to miss some of the live entertainment on offer as you plan your voyage of discovery of the region’s great wines and delectable culinary treats. With most of the Franschhoek wineries participating in this fun festival, there promises to be something for everyone, which includes cellar and vineyard tours, barrel tastings, food and wine pairings, art exhibitions, a fresh food market as well as a micro-brewery tasting, to name but a few. Music fans can expect to be kept entertained with a variety of live shows, ranging from talented jazz musicians and blues bands to French inspired music, with local musicians providing the ‘local is lekker’ flavour. Car enthusiasts will be thrilled with a rare exhibition of über-luxury cars, which include the ultimate marques of Aston Martin, Porsche, Maserati and Ferrari.
A recent innovation to ensure you have an unforgettable experience is the Uncorked Access Card. Available directly from participating wineries on the day, or through Webtickets, the card includes a tasting glass and free wine tasting at these wineries for the duration of the event. To allow for easy, hassle-free transport, pre-booked private shuttle services will be available to the public.
Extending the celebrations of Franschhoek Uncorked from fun-filled days to late into star-lit nights, the organisers will be hosting an evening event at Holden Manz Wine Estate in Franschhoek.
Consider turning your attendance of this social calendar highlight into a complete weekend of exploration. Book into one of the town’s luxuriously quaint, yet affordable B&B’s or guest houses, and discover all that Franschhoek has to offer. Relax and unwind while taking a leisurely stroll down the main road, home to an assortment of world-class sidewalk cafés, shops and boutiques. Simply take a moment on a park bench and watch the world go by. Visit one of the numerous art galleries and historical buildings. Or if you’d prefer, visit one of Franschhoek’s highly rated restaurants, be it for pizza or a truly mouth-watering delicacy prepared by renowned chefs.
And if that isn’t enough visitors can also set off on the Franschhoek Food & Wine Route as part of their weekend excursion. Taking the concept of a food and wine experience to an entirely new level, visitors have the opportunity to tailor-make their trip, choosing from a wide range of food, wine and lifestyle offerings. Experience a tasting of sublime schnapps made in the valley or book a tour of the chocolate workshop, where you’ll get to taste the essence of the enthralling cocoa bean.
So, with something for everyone we invite you to come and indulge yourself as you witness the country’s gourmet capital blossom and come alive.
