1960 Surf Reunion at the Berg

The simple query “When are you gonna get the guys together?” by 1960’s Muizenberg surfing stalwart Henk ‘Farmer’ Schagen has triggered a sequence of events that will culminate in over 500 people from every corner of the globe re-uniting in Cape Town in March to celebrate their memories of the time they spent at the iconic ‘Surfers Corner’ between four and five decades ago.

Photography workshop

Combine a Big 5 safari with a photographic workshop at Tembe Elephant Park and Kosi Lake Field. Presented by Anita de Viliers, Lex Hes and William Oets. 

The course will run from the 26th - 30th of May 2010 and include wildlife photography, landscapes and natural and cultural history.

FIFA 2010 tickets into the fourth round

The fourth round of ticket sales for the 2010 FIFA World Cup has started today, with over 400 000 tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis.
FIFA said this phase will be one of the last chances for fans to make sure they attend the first World Cup on African soil.
The sale of tickets will run for 58 days and end on 7 April 2010.

Knysna will be headquarters for top teams during the World Cup

Knysna will be the base camp destination for both France and Denmark during the period of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
 
France has confirmed that they will be based at the Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa and Denmark at the equally luxurious Simola Golf and Country Estate. Mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies said they were delighted. “I think it is a major coup for a small town like Knysna to host two teams. I want to congratulate our 2010 team on this achievement and we are looking forward to hosting both Les Bleus and the Danish Dynamites in Knysna.”

So what can we say about him? One thing is for sure, Zakumi will be first on the dancefloor and last off it at the biggest party in the world - the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. He wants to dance and entertain as many people as he can. He is an animator for fans, players and officials, for schoolchildren, teenagers and big kids alike!
 

Cape Town Stadium complete

The new Cape Town Stadium has been opened on time - 32 months after the first sod was turned.
 
Following the tune of the “Final Countdown”, Mayor Dan Plato on Monday addressed a special ceremony attended by more than 200 invited guests and media, before hundreds of balloons of the colours of the South African flag were released.

Ticket sales for FIFA World Cup

The third ticketing sales of the 2010 Fifa World Cup has hit the 500 000 mark within the first ten days.

A total of 386 300 of the tickets were bought by South African soccer fans, while the remaining 114 237 were bought by fans from all over the world.  

Presently, the USA is leading the list of foreign countries for the sales phase with 22 942 tickets, followed by the UK 20 232, Mexico 7 981, Germany 7 697, Australia 6 277 and Brazil 4 760.

Fair Trade & Lotto train guide

As part of a Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) facilitated project, a total of 17 tourist guides completed their tourist guide training programme this month.
 
‘Accredited Tourist Guide Training for Local Youth’, which is wholly funded by the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), will see that all of the guides will soon be fully accredited community tourist guides registered with the Western Cape Tourism Authority.
