Premier Hotel Pretoria will take steps towards eco-consciousness after taking part in the Greening Hotels in South Africa Project earlier this year, under the Travel Foundation UK and Wilderness Foundation South Africa.
The Travel Foundation focuses on protecting and enhancing the environment in holiday destinations, improving the welfare of destination communities, providing a resource for the industry, promoting sustainable tourism to holidaymakers, and establishing fair trade practice.
Similar programmes have been implemented in Sri Lanka, Morocco, and the Caribbean. The South African venture will aim to instil an ethical environmental value system, raise environmental awareness and increase environmental operating efficiency, and reduce energy, water and waste consumption.
Premier Hotel Pretoria has been provided with cost-effective measures to reduce water, electricity and waste consumption, and strategies to adapt staff behavioural attitudes to reflect the new green principles.
