A small snapshot exit poll conducted at Cape Town International Airport by the Western Cape government has yielded overwhelmingly positive results, says Western Cape Tourism MEC, Alan Winde.
The poll was conducted on January 11 to measure foreign visitors’ perceptions and experiences of the Western Cape. Although only 25 people from 14 countries were interviewed, the Western Cape scored an overall holiday experience rating of 8,5 out of 10.
Some 88% of respondents thought the destination was safe. The remaining 12% felt unsafe mainly due to aggressive driving by other road users.
Most respondents had a better impression of both the Western Cape and of South Africa than upon their arrival. Some 60% indicated they would return and 40% said they would return with their families.
At least 64% of respondents knew that Table Mountain was chosen as one of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature”.
The top three experiences in the province were rated as
1. Winelands
2. Table Mountain
3. Nature/scenery.
The Winelands were also the most popular destination visited outside of Cape Town. Most respondents hired cars (52%); 64% were first-time visitors; their average age was 42 years (versus 40 years in 2010) and the average size group consisted of 2,5 people (versus six people in 2010).
