Table Moutain in the running for the New 7 Wonders spot

Table Mountain has made it into the final round of the New 7 Wonders of Nature contest beating the Atacama Desert in Chile, the Azure Window in Malta and the Rock of Aphrodite in Cyprus for a spot on the shortlist.

The top 28 wonders from around the world were announced today, Tuesday July 21, by the New7Wonders Foundation in Zurich, Switzerland.  The finalists include legendary sites such as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Grand Canyon in the USA and the Amazon in South America.

Safaricam at Shamwari

FAMILIES wanting to record their wildlife encounter of a lifetime can do so with Shamwari’s new Safaricam experience.Guests will be filmed while enjoying their safari in a private 4x4 Land Rover with their own ranger and professional cameraman for their personal wildlife documentary. The film footage will then be edited into a 30- to 40-minute broadcast-quality DVD with high-quality music and graphics. Good surf on Sunday

Sunday, 18 May 2009,  Saw Fish Hoek produce some good surf again.  Lefts breaking off the river mouth.  Muizenberg was breaking halfway to Cape Point, really long rides at Muizenberg yesterday.  The massive swell predicted seem to drop off or maybe it was stage fright,  it just never really arrived. 

Sardine Run and Fifa Soccer World Cup

Those who may be considering joining us for the Sardine Run next year should start looking at flights now already.  The Fifa soccer world cup is from June 11 to July 11, 2010.  We expect flights to South Africa to be exceptionally busy.  We are a month away from our first Sardine Run trip of 2009.  We will post information about flights for the period of the world cup and keep you posted on the blog.

Simonsig unveils new Van Niekerk Room

Simonsig celebrated its winemaking legacy of almost four decades, with the unveiling of the new Van Niekerk Room, a private room catering for intimate functions.The room is situated above the estate’s Cuvée restaurant and is for exclusive intimate lunch or dinner occasions.

 

A minimum of 15 people are required to secure the venue.

 

Tourism minister is Van Schalkwyk

The newly-formed Department of Tourism will be headed up by Marthinus van Schalkwyk, the former Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. He will be supported by Thozile Xasa, who has been named as Deputy Minister of Tourism. Environmental Affairs now falls under what has been named the Ministry of Water and Environmental Affairs which will be headed up by Buyelwa Sonjica. Former Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Rejoice Mabhudafhasi, has been named as the Deputy Minister of that department.

Tourism Minister for South Africa

When President elect Jacob Zuma is inaugurated this week, a new standalone tourism minister will make his or her introduction into cabinet. The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) will be split into two ministries that will deal with these issues on separate playing fields.
