Red Bull Big Wave Africa has been put on ice

It's not a financial decision," said Tristan Werner, Red Bull Sports Marketing Manager, "but a business one."Werner explained that Red Bull rarely ran events for more than one or two years, and that after an amazing decade that saw the event take South African big wave surfing to unprecedented levels, it was time to call it a day."There is no doubt the Red Bull was instrumental in our careers," Twiggy said today.

Hobie Tigers Race Offshore Race

Hobie Tigers joined the Mykonos offshore race on Friday,  14 Tigers registered for the event.  We launched off Milnerton beach for an exciting downwind start in 25 knots of wind.  We immediately saw one or two casualties in the first few minutes of the race.  With spinnakers up most raced off to the shore at Big Bay.  The wind died to 4-5 knots and forced most of us to hug and work the coastline looking for a bit more wind.  The wind came up and from Koeberg th

Mykonos Offshore Race

This weekend saw the biggest fleet in the history of the Mykonos Offshore Race from Cape Town to Langebaan. With 80 yachts crossing the start line from Cape Town in good conditions, winds of 22-25 knots in Table Bay.  A spectacle that will remain in my mind with 80 keel boats with their spinnakers up.

Hobie Cape Point Challenge

This weekend saw the 15th Cape Point Challenge,  with almost 60 boats entered it was a great success.  Winds varying from 30knots to 5 knots in big swells off Smitswinkel bay made for a hard sailed event.  Well done to Matthew Whitehead and Caleen for their oustanding performance.  Overall winner went to Jimie Cairns on a Hobie 14.  An exceptional win for Jimie, WELL DONE!  Cape Point Challenge this year saw the biggest fleet of Hobie Tigers on the water since the

Sunset over Africa

February in the Cape is certainly one of the best months, warm evenings with spectacular sunsets over the west coast.  I captured this picture last week of just one of the sunsets that we have been having.  Sunsets in Africa are just incredible!  Join us for this experience.

Commodore Hotel

Located near the sea in Cape Town it’s only appropriate that The Commodore Hotel should have a nautical name and theme going throughout the hotel.

Rooms are decorated in soft colours reflecting the tranquility of the sea and great service is what you will find at this Legacy hotel.

Situated in the V&A Waterfront, it is central, allowing you to explore Table Mountain, Robben Island, Signal Hill and many more wonderful landmarks.

Portswood Hotel

The Portswood Hotel is located right next door to it’s sister hotel, however has it’s own unique taste and décor. Similar to the Commodore it’s also has a nautical theme but offers a down to earth, comfortable base for you to explore the Cape. The structure was originally a convict station, but after a TOTAL revamp all traces of this dark history is gone and a luxury hotel offering excellent service and super accommodation remains.
