Decision time for Groupama

Groupama 4 and Franck Cammas/FRA, the leading team in leg one of the Volvo Ocean Race, have two choices: move west quickly and take a big loss to do it, or hold their nerve and sail towards the triangle of doom, the no-go windless area that begins south of the Cape Verde Islands 600 nautical miles ahead, and then make the turn west.

Wind increases for Volvo Ocean Race.

At last the fleet is beginning to fly and tonight at 2200 UTC the boats way out in the Atlantic are enjoying the benefit of a bit more wind and making good progress on starboard tack at around 17 knots, more the sort of speed associated with these high performance racing machines.

CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand were first through the Strait of Gibraltar after a day and a half of tough sailing in the Mediterranean. The three other boats racing followed them into the Atlantic without further alarm.

Bokke Beat Fiji 49-3

Cape Town – So dinosaurs can dance!

The Springboks have suddenly bared their teeth at the World Cup, the defending champions reminding the planet that even some of their older pairs of legs still have plenty of gusto left in them.

South Africa served up a feast in Wellington on Saturday, overcoming Fiji by six tries to nil for an emphatic outcome many of us, let’s face it, had considered fairly unlikely after the tepid disposal of Wales and an unfortunate lead-up winter to RWC 2011 as well.

Francois Hougaard's Memorable Try

Wellington - In the build-up to South Africa's 17-16 victory over Wales, wing Francois Hougaard said making his Rugby World Cup debut against Wales would be something he would remember for a long time.

He did not anticipate celebrating the great achievement by also scoring his first try in a Springbok jersey.

"It is a great honour and privilege to play here and scoring my first try for the Springboks made it even more special," said Hougaard said after the match.
