Hobie 16 Nationals

The Hobie 16 National Championship will be held at the Point Yacht Club in Durban. Racing will start mid-day on Friday the 10th of April and will finish mid-day on the 13th of April.

Notice of race will still be sent out, but feel free to contact us for more information.

Durban offers great autumn weather and awesome sailing waters and the challenge is on as sailors from all standings can compete with 40 other sailors.

The Point Yacht club will be hosting their Easter Regatta during this time so it should be great fun for all.

Cape Point Challenge 2009

It's time for the Cape Point Challenge again. This annual event is held every year without fail and inspite the weather as it will be this year, on the 14th of March 2009. A wonderful adrenalin filled challenge for hobie cat sailors or all ages as they leave the Fish Hoek Beach sailing toward Cape Point where they turn around a bouy and head back. For those who do not sail, there is always a great atmosphere at the club where the smell of food will tantelize your tastebuds. Or just join us for a drink and some sailing conversation.

Instructor

The Instructor Development course is spilt into two blocks which allows you to conveniently schedule it in your own time. In the Assistant Instructor Course will be taught how to present the following: - The Knowledge development done in your Open Water course. - Surface Skills in a pool-like environment - The Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course - The Project AWARE specialty course - Emergency First Response course You will also be taught how to conduct Discover Scuba Experiences. This will be under the supervision of a PADI Instructor.

Dive Master

To complete your Dive Master Qualification you will work closely with the dive centre and qualified PADI Instructor and learn more scuba diving skills. You will be overseeing and learn to teach scuba diving activities. As Dive Master in training you will lead guided dive tours and even assist with in Discover Scuba experience. To participate in the certification you will need to have completed the PADI Rescue Diver course and have logged about 20 dives. This is where scuba diving becomes fullfilling, when you share your experience with others.

Master Scuba Diver

The Master Scuba Diver certifies you as having experience in scuba diving and the diving environment. To complete this qualification you will have to participate in 5 speciality courses, complete the PADI Rescue Diver course as well as the Emergency First Response course.

Rescue Diver

The Rescue Diver Course is a very helpful course as it can help you save lives in dangerous situations. The PADI Rescue Diver Course is also a prerequisite for the Master Diver Certificate and PADI Divemaster rating. To qualify for this certificate, divers must complete a CPR/ First Aid course within the past two years. The course includes a classroom portion, consisting of reading material and an exam. During the course the PADI divers will face 12 basic scenarios. The scenarios as practiced in order to assist fellow divers as well as complete a self rescue.

Advanced Diver

The Advance Diver can choose from specialitiy dives such as night dives, wreck dives and deep dives. To qualify you will complete a deep dive accompanied by an instructor as well as a navigational dive. You wil choose 3 additional dives from the 15 options available to you to complete the certificate which will put you one step closer to Master Diver. To complete the Advance Diver Course you need to be qualified as an Open Water Diver. You need to complete 5 dives, 3 of your own choosing. So come on, let the adventure continue.

Open Water Diver

In the Open Water Diver Course the instructor will take you through the basics of diving in poll-like conditions. You will learn safety aspects of diving and things you can expect while diving. To complete the certificate you will do 5 confined water dives and 4 open water dives. You will also complete a knowledge development section and be tested on this during a written exam. Once you have qualified you are free to dive up to 18 metres with a dive buddy.

Scuba Diver

The PADI Scuba Diver certificate allows you to get qualified quickly, so if you are at a diving resort you don't have to miss out on the great dives. You will be able to dive under the direct supervision of a qualified Dive Master, Assistant Instructor, Instructor on highly qualified diver.

Discover Scuba

The Discover Scuba course is an introduction to scuba and takes only an hour or two. The dive is credited towards your PADI Open Water Dive certificate and a great way of discovering if scuba is for you. The average dive depth is 6 metres/20 feet and the maximum depth is 12 metres/ 40 feet. A short safety brief is all you have to go through, all the rest is taken care of, equipment gearing up everything. You will dive with a qualified instructor or dive master and in some cases an assistant. So relax and let us introduce this awesome sport to you.
